This review is Leave the World Behind by Rumaan Alam. One of my favorite ways to rest is by curling up with a good book. Like movies and music, all genres appeal to me, and I give all books a chance to be ‘heard’!

Writing a review of Leave the World Behind by Rumaan Alam is difficult because of the complexity of emotions I have regarding the novel. Here goes –

Amanda, Clay, and their two children – Archie and Rose – are on a family retreat in a remote location of Long Island. During the second night of their vacation, two mysterious people, Ruth and G.H., show up at their doorstep claiming to be the owners of the rental home and seeking shelter from a mysterious blackout in the city. Amanda and Clay are put in a precarious situation – do they believe this couple and let them in, or do they turn them away? More alarmingly, what are Ruth and G.H. so afraid of?

Leave the World Behind by @Rumaan left feeling conflicted. Check out my review to see why and see a video by Rumaan Alam discuss his novel, too. #rumaanalam #leavetheworldbehind #thriller #fiction #beingfibromom #bookreviews… Share on X

This book is also available with Kindle Unlimited Membership Plans.

There is no cell reception, internet service, or satellite tv to confirm the blackout and cause of the strangers’ panic. The family is isolated from others, they have no idea what’s happening in the world, and strange events begin to take place in the surrounding woods. The unknown is one of our biggest fears and the family will face this fear, but at least they have one another. For now.

I have conflicting feelings about this novel. While I like the suspense and hanging on the edge of my seat, I was completely deflated by the ending. Honestly, I was mad. There was no conclusion or finale. There are more unanswered questions than answered ones. It’s as though the story is cut off in the middle of it. Some people like these types of endings but I am not one of them. Despite the disappointing ‘ending’, I give this novel three out of five stars.

Book of the Month Club

I enjoyed books so much that I joined the Book of the Month Club to continue receiving the latest and greatest books via mail. Some of the books are exclusive to BOTM club members a month prior to their official publishing date! Each month I’m excited about the monthly selections, and it’s tough to select just one. (And when I can’t decide on one, I can add additional books for a small add-on charge, and – as always – shipping is included in the monthly membership fee.) Can’t find one you want? That’s okay, too! Skip a month, pocket the credit to spend next month, and you won’t be charged for that current month.

Book Ratings and Reviews

Each book I review is based on my opinion. This does not mean you will agree with the review or love/like/dislike the book, too. There’s a quote that says, “No two persons ever read the same book” by Edmund Wilson, and it’s quite true!
